With a proposal on new Master Plan by Foster and Partners in collaboration with Berg Arkitektkontor, area of Slussen in Stockholm will become a revolutionary change upon completion.

It is time for revitalisation for Slussen, central area of Stockholm with the architects proposing a new master plan that investigates the current problems and proposes the solutions taking into account the culture, infrastructure and traffic.

Foster and partners worked on conceptualising the Master Plan upon winning the competition, which results as an immediate and everlasting solution to the problems that people of the city face everyday. The architects aim to create Stockholm as a civic destination by creating a modern urban quarter at the heart of the Stockholm Archipelago and a dynamic new civic destination.

Looking at the current scenario and the condition of the building, the architects have proposed to demolish and rebuilt the stuctures again which will provide better infrastructure, developed quayside, defined pedestrain and cycle routes, which shall resolve consistent solution to the problems that the city faces. The city proposes to look at space ulitlisation on the gound level by placing transport interchange underneath the ground. Attention to other user of the city has been given by providing public interaction spaces and designated shopping areas. To create extended pedestranised areas, various roads have been removed and converted into pedestrian areas.

To connect the north and the south route in the Slussen, architects have designed a beutiful ‘s’ shape footbridge. A new contemporary urban look is generated on the ruined image of Stockholm, which will create a dynamism in the city providing spectacular views of the waterfront and the city skyline. Although the proposal has contemporary look, the subtle and the flexible nature allows the amalgamation of various functions and cultures into one place.

The main element of the master plan is the proposal of pedestrainised ‘water square’, strategically placed in between the other infrastruture porposed on the site. To activate the water front of the city and rejuvinate the same, mixed land use is proposed around the site, to cater various people, providing excellent views from the various proposed levels.

The City of Stockholm will transform into a complete new site upon the completion and implementation of this urban design project, which will provide distinguished areas with distinguished functions and bring the city to a new level of urban development.
