Embodying cultural artistry and technological innovations to modulate the aesthetics for The Yas Hotel is USA-based architectural firm Asymptote Architecture.

Asymptote Architecture, an architectural firm based in USA has actualised a playful and deceptively simple model sustainable design for The Yas Hotel, Abu Dhabi. The hotel is an intrinsic part of the upcoming YAS Marina Development in Abu Dhabi.

An idealised reality, the hotel functionality spans over two twelve storey towers with a steel and glass bridge connecting them. The first new hotel to be built over a F1 Race Track, the landmark structure complements its innovative aura through an environmentally responsive skin that by day reflects the sky and by night is lit by a full colour changing LED lighting system. The interactive interface recognises green building strategies by incorporating the main feature of the hotel—a 217m expanse of sweeping, curvilinear glass and steel covering that is made up of 5,800 pivoting diamond-shaped glass panels. The streamlined shell explores a pattern carved out of inspiration from ancient Islamic art and craft traditions. The dynamic veil shelters and connects the two hotel towers exuding a technological significance through its LED system. The ambient F1 Race Track was a pivotal inspiration that integrated poetics, speed and art to celebrate the façade’s being. The entire jewel-like composition of the project responds visually and tectonically to its environment covering the 500-room and 85,000sqm vast complex. The sculpted skin responds to the ambience by catching light in the day to power up the LED display at night. It visually connects and unifies the entire spatiality into a whole.

Behind the glowing façade lies a robust design reminiscent of the Islamic artistic tradition which has emerged on the landmark architectural forefront of Dubai’s ambitious multiplicity.
