The house evolved in form from a square block that defined the internal space. The open space concept was developed by allowing the exploration of this defined form externally along one edge as a garden, which allows the private enclosed space to flow into the external public domain defined by a circular freestanding wall.

The programme was to build a house for a family with multifunctional space, kitchenette and a toilet. The planning was developed on a grid which measured 4x4ft based on the structural efficiency of the material. A The design has been a culmination of the architects understanding of the site and its influences, its surroundings, the client, his requirements and his lifestyle. The understanding of the site and its topography as an element in the surrounding architectural environment determined the building volume. Taking the topography into consideration was a way of reflecting the characteristics of the region. The plan was envisaged as a two tiered dwelling unit with ample light and ventilation and a judicious use of recycled materials. To break the monotony of the cuboid mass, as well as to gain the visual access to the park, the peripheral grids were rotated. This was balanced with the triangular balconies on the other sides.

Chirag was given a medium sized plot measuring 20m x 22m with a brief: simply design a large comfortable house for the seasonal family visits of people habituated to a city life. An over-riding oval geometry on a rectangular plot provides shifting views and a dynamic relationship with its surroundings.

Casa Rivo is situated in a dense jungle.

The site for the project was the west slope of a hill, covered in a dense jungle of native species. The first major decision of the project was to contain the entire program in a compact and monolithic volume with an over dimensioned perimeter wall that would contain all the services and would help regulate the temperature. As the site was amidst dense greenery, the architects were forced to design the house in a manner such that one was able to overlook the trees to views and sunshine through most of the day.
