Improvement-plan of Kala Ghoda Area
|
Architect:
A & A Design Associates The master plan prepared by the firm focuses on combining the existing components and functions in the area to create a unique function of an Art District for the city, to animate and make possible the use of interstitial spaces in the area such as pavements, the parking lot and an amphitheatre to bring art into the public realm. Emphasis on pedestrian network along with articulation of vehicular network is given at all stages of planning and designing. Quiet rampart row being a ‘Pedestrian Dominated’ zone, pedestrian activities such as amphitheatre and parking lot plaza, are planned around it. The parking lot becomes pedestrian plaza in the evenings and over week ends. Amphitheatre, created out of an existing MCGM-chowki, functions dually as a chowki and the public gathering-space. Wide pavements along Museum wall, with large shade-giving trees are transformed into pavement galleries for artists to display their work, where people can hang around and perch on tree-surround seating. The project Improvement-plan of Kala Ghoda Area is located in Mumbai. Its architect is A & A Design Associates. |
