The ADP group of companies (formerly known as D. E. Shaw & Co) acquired a building of 57000sqft. It consisted of ground plus four upper floors. The requirements specified that the ground floor must house the server room and the reception, with a few meeting rooms thrown in. A significant part of the brief was the stress laid on their corporate colours. These were a striking combination of black and white, which were not colours at all, in a manner of speaking.

For architects Nisha Mathew-Ghosh and Soumitro Ghosh, the design of their own studio was perhaps as challenging if not more amongst all their projects. The programme involved a dual use of a plot for the design studio and a home for parents.

The Architect's Cabin

The story of this architectural studio and Ayurved Clinic started when architect Dhananjay and his wife Jyoti – an Ayurved doctor, chose to have offices close to each other. Together they bought three small office spaces within a commercial complex and converted them into one expansive space. This combination of functions set the tone for the design approach that derived its inspiration from the two distinct fields of architecture and medicine.

Located on Queensland’s Sunshine Coast, the studio resembles a pavilion built with steel, glass and plywood. With the aim to create buildings that ‘integrate delicately with the natural landscape,’ the design studio is sited between two mature Brown Bloodwood eucalyptus trees, capturing the symbiotic relationship that buildings can have with nature.

Semi open workshop area for children

Founded in 1999, Magic Bus seeks to expose underprivileged youth and children from slums to various training and employment opportunities. It creates a healthy and conducive social environment for them. The campus, located away from the bustle of the city and situated in a lush natural environment serves as the primary facilitator where the children are brought for the weekend by a bus – hence the name ‘Magic Bus’. The discussed campus catering to Mumbai’s youngsters was to be built in the hilly confines of the nearby Karjat town.
