Park at Lakeshore in Chicago, designed by US based architect, the office of James Burnett is a new addition to the city, with interactive features all around consisting of green lush lawns, variety of seating area and water promenades.
The development with the Lakeshore East in Chicago is architect’s creation with a perspective of the city’s future and development with the complete creation of landscape within a city as an infrastructure. US-based landscape architects, The office of James Burnett in collaboration with Site Design Group Limited, have worked on creating a masterpiece as a part of 28 acre Lakeshore development. The project was initiated by Chicago Inner Loop to develop the Lakeshore East area. As a part of the project, 5.2 acre was proposed as a park area. The architect thus worked on creating a space with multiple users having two defined axis within the park.
The entrance of the park is appealing with minimal arrangement creating a free flow space leading the visitors into lush landscape. Considerations to multiple users of the space are given, the plaza lies in north of the park. Accessibility to various corners of the park is well accomplished because of the provision of various interconnections from one axis to another. In addition to the defined peripheral boundary path, there are two white pavers which connect one across the park.
The street edge, well integrated within the park as edge is activated with the use of fountain basins with seating area, which also gives a consideration to the people while across the promenade. Safety within the kids play area is achieved both in the form and with integrating water feature within it. The area is circular in form and has integrated water feature which provide safety within the area for children.
The park with 46 species or ornamental plants, not only provides a relaxing space for the visitors but provides areas defined for dogs in the south of the park, which are located in such a way that the area is segregated from the park, even though being located within the park offers a safe and a secured area for the owners as well as visitors.
Integration within the landscape completely is well achieved in the park because of the minimum exploration in the materials and minimal arrangements done with the materials. The entrance staircase is done with limestone and the seating in the plaza is done with precise concrete.
With the use of multifunctional areas¸ defined characteristics, ornamental plants, minimal arrangement or pavers, the architect has succeeded in providing a scenic and a relaxing area in the Lakeshore East Park, which beautifies the chaotic city.
