A view of the cafeteria

Since the location enjoyed beautiful landscaped surroundings on two adjacent sides it became imperative to capture the external views from the interior spaces. Rather than creating partitioned spaces the entire interior volume is delineated into several platforms of varying heights. Thus each activity including sports, cafeteria, library, office, lounge and Internet cafe are separated only by ground levels. The stepping of these activities at various levels allows the natural outdoor beauty to be visible from each part of the interior. Each level is bound by low wood partitions that move fluidly within the internal volume creating an abstract sculptural formation.

The project revolves around the enshrining of the ashes of Buddha that had been excavated in Vaishali and were lying in the vaults of the Patna Museum. The vision was to build a park in which they could be interred. A major challenge was to define the project and its scope. For this a strong sampling and distillation of ideas was used.

‘Dinner in the Sky’ is a notion that challenges the familiar environment of dining out. It consists of a crane that can seat up to 22 people which is hoisted 50m in the air for a unique dining experience. Guests are strapped into leather seats, while waiters and waitresses stand in an aisle at the center of the table.

This is the first zoo building by Foster & Partners and only his second project in Denmark. The entire structure is designed with the thought of allowing the elephants to play and interact naturally, with mud holes, scattered pools of water and shading objects.

Digital rendering of the Erdos Museum

Erdos Museum is located in the new city centre of Erdos. Driven by a booming economy, the Municipal Government of Erdos has determined to create this new city, dozens of kilometers away from the current city, on a site that until recently was nothing but the Gobi Desert. The urban masterplan drew a symbolic but empty image of ‘the Ever Rising Sun on the Grassland’: a rigid and precise series of urban landscapes radiating from a central plaza, and symbolising the sun.

An amusement park at a hill station sounds odd, as all slopping areas there may not be suitable for such activity.

Randers Museum of Art

Landscape
Landscape

The Randers Museum of Art is the biggest sculpture in its own sculpture park. The new museum proposed by 3XN architects in the city of Randers, located by the Gudena River, is a continuous skin, which transforms itself from the floor to the walls to the ceiling. The museum is a transition point between the town and landscape, art and nature. While one end of the building opens up towards the town, the other end leads the users towards the landscape.

Salt lake city- City Centre

Entry into the city centre
Entry into the city centre

This is a vibrant new city centre - energised though the interaction of the many diverse activities it contains. There is a wide spectrum of land-uses, ranging from apartment houses and office buildings, to restaurants and shops (some located in a large air-conditioned shopping area, and others in the narrow bazaar-streets one finds throughout India). The concept that unifies all these diverse uses is the pedestrian movement that traverses from one end of the site to the other, climaxing in an open-air kund at the focal point of the main plaza.
