AE4 Studio with an inventive use of concrete has turned its rawness into a light and airy material.
Materials most of the time gives us the picture of finishes and construction when described. However, Sobrino House in Argentina designed by AE4 Studio gives a complete new picture with the extensive use of concrete within a house.
With the intricate requirements of the client which included a workplace within the house, the architects thus worked on creating numerous organised levels where the functions are categorised accordingly to provide to suffice the needs of the client. The design features and the zoning done is logically based on topography of the site and rises 2.5m from the lowest part of the site, which also serves as the entry for the house.
Upon entering the site, one perceives an uninterrupted and an immaculate image of the house completely finished in concrete and creating a sense of openness and still retaining the privacy within the house. The interior functions are laid down on a square plan with the perimeter serving the areas where natural light is desired and provide scenic views of the surroundings.
The concrete flows within the building from exterior to interior, the inverted beams and concrete tensors holds the corbel which eposes the structure.
In all, Sobrino House is a statuette moulded in concrete where the material flows throughout creating a sense of connectivity with earth.
