Christopher Charles Beninger

Born in America in 1942, Christopher Charles Benninger has lived and worked in India for the past thirty-three years. He studied City Planning at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and Architecture at Harvard University under Joseph Luis Sert, where he was later a Professor of Architecture. A Fulbright Fellowship brought him to Ahmedabad, India in 1968 and he returned as a Ford Foundation Advisor to establish the School of Urban Planning in 1971. He founded the Centre for Development Studies in Pune, India (1976) involving himself in rural development and poverty alleviation work. He has prepared plans for the Governments of Bhutan, Nepal, Malaysia, Indonesia, Sri Lanka and India. He has designed institutions, residential schools, business and luxury hotels, corporate headquarters and large-scale housing projects.

Patrik Schumacher

Patrik Schumacher studied philosophy and architecture in Bonn, London and Stuttgart, where he received his Diploma in architecture in 1990. In 1999 he completed his PHD at the Institute for Cultural Science, Klagenfurt University. Sinve 1992 Schumacher has been teaching at various architectural schools in Britain, Continental Europe and the USA. In 1996 he founded the "Design Research Laboratory" with Brett Steele, at the Architectural Association School of Architecture in London and continues to serve as one of its co-directors.

Sen Kapadia

Sen Kapadia has designed a range of architectural projects with an energy conscious bent of mind including corporate offices, educational institutions, housing, sports clubs and commercial complexes. He has worked with eminent American architect Louis Kahn in Philadelphia and also created the winning design for the new postgraduate campus of the National Institute of Design at Gandhinagar.

 

Hirante Welandawe

Hirante Welandawe qualified as an architect from the University of Moratuwa, Sri Lanka in 1980 and received her postgraduate training from the same university in 1983. She completed her Masters in urban design at Helsinki University of Technology, Finland. She apprenticed with B.V. Doshi at Stein Doshi & Bhalla at Sangath, the firm's atelier in Ahmadabad, India. After working at several offices in Finland and Sri Lanka she set up her own practice in partnership with Madhura Prematilleke. Her practice H W Architects Pvt. Ltd. is based in Colombo, Sri Lanka from where the company operates projects in Sri Lanka, India and in Bahrain. Welandawe is also a lecturer at the Colombo School of Architecture and at the University of Moratuwa.
