Imbibing the team member’s individual strengths across disciplines, the vision of Lotus is to constantly explore new paradigms in an inherent desire to stretch the boundaries of what is acceptable or even possible. A core area of exploration of the firm is the interface between craft and technology.

Projects by the team have won numerous awards and have been extensively published in various publications in India and abroad. Some projects completed by Lotus in the past include Khaaja Chowk, Magique restaurant in Delhi, mit Krishn Gulati, Founding Director, Incubis, New Delhi& Rivet stores in Delhi and Bangalore, the Rohit Bal, Rajesh Pratap, and H2O Stores at Emporio in Delhi, the Hard Rock Café Delhi etc. In the last two years Lotus has expanded its scope to providing architectural consultancy. Some projects currently under execution include a 40-room Boutique hotel and adaptive reuse projects at the Mehrangarh Fort and Ummaid Bhawan in Jodhpur, the new Shiro outlet, a studio for Sculptor Subodh Gupta, and 3 residential buildings all in Delhi, an eco resort in Himachal, a school in Jaipur, and Retail projects in Dubai and Singapore.

Their inherent design philosophy is to deal with every design problem at a fundamental level. They don’t believe in getting into a style but instead start with trying to define the forces at play and then create the geometry that resolves it. The design team of Lotus likes taking design to an extreme at the conceptual stage. They find inspiration in ordinary things, everyday events and chance encounters. They believe that a sustainable experience is seldom about a first ‘wow’ and hence don’t believe in a single ‘big idea’ approach. The practice explores ways to engage the customer, the way they move through the space and interact with it, and likes the fact that designing a space offers the opportunity to build in layers" which unfold differently for different people.

In this interview he talks about his practice Lotus Design Services, in its initial stages and the evolution of their thought process. He walks us through some of his projects such as the Kala Chowk restaurant, the Levi's store and the Good Earth store. Explaining their design process and their creation from its inception to execution.
